Kelce opened up about the family’s future cat status on her podcast, saying that “the kitten’s for mom”
Kylie Kelce is not opposed to becoming a cat lady — or an animal collector.
On the Dec. 19th episode of her Not Gonna Lie podcast, she and guest Charissa Thompson, the host of Thursday Night Football and Fox NFL Kickoff, discussed when the Kelce family was going to add pets to their growing brood. This prompted Thompson to ask a very important question, “Where do things stand on the girls getting a kitten?”
Kelce, 32, didn’t have to think long and hard about the family’s future cat status. “I hate to break it to you, but the kitten would not be for the girls. The kitten’s for mom,” she proclaimed. “I think when I was growing up, I was very much in the camp of when I grow up, all bets are out.”
The mom of three, who is currently expecting her fourth with husband Jason Kelce, then gave some insight to her animal obsession that started young.
“When I came home from high school, instead of watching MTV or, I don’t even know what the other cool channels were. I don’t know what the other channels were because I wasn’t watching them. I was watching Nat Geo Wild and Animal Planet,” she shared.
“I can’t get enough of animals,” Kelce confessed before describing the amount of responsibility and care that comes with having a pet, especially as a parent to little ones.
“When I started having kids, I realized how much I have to really put an effort in to shift my focus onto my animals because my children take up a lot of my attention,” she told Thompson. “And because of that, I am hyper aware that it needs to be a very specific timing.”
As for now, it’s not only about the timing, but getting her 37-year-old husband onboard with the commitment. “I would love to just get a cat, but we’re waiting for the right time. And also, believe it or not, I do love and respect my husband,” Kelce said of her husband.
She explained, “And if he doesn’t want a cat right now, I don’t necessarily wanna do it against his will. I do think there will come a time where we break him down and he not only says it’s okay.”

This is not the first time getting a cat has come up for Kelce and the rest of her family.
In fact, in January of this year, she even threatened to use her husband’s own words against him after he recalled how he defended his shirtless escapades while attending one of brother Travis Kelce’s football games last season. He told her, “I’m like, ‘Hey I’m just letting you know what’s happening. I’m not asking for permission, I’m doing this.’”
That part of the conversation, of course, stuck out to Kylie, who realized she could use her hubby’s words for her own benefit. “‘I’m not asking for permission, I’m doing this.’ — the exact quote I will say when I’m grabbing the keys to go get a cat,” she commented on a clip of the New Heights podcast’s Instagram account posted. That comment has since garnered over 55,000 likes.
Prior to that, Kelce told her brother-in-law about her plans to add a feline companion to the family. “Here’s the deal, I told Jason that I want to get a cat,” she said in December 2023 while appearing on the New Heights podcast. “And he told me no. And I feel like you might like cats now.”
“What color cat do you want,” the Chiefs player asked his sister-in-law, before she replied, “I don’t want you to send a cat. I just want you to get on my team here.”
Kelce then said that she asked because she thought he “might like cats now.” Hint, hint.
