Veteran Political Commentator Lou Dobbs Dies at 78
Lou Dobbs, the influential and often controversial political analyst known for his prominent roles at CNN and Fox News, has died at the age of 78.
Dobbs was a towering presence in American media, remembered for his fiery commentary and deep impact on political discourse. His outspoken views—particularly his criticisms of former President Barack Obama—made him a polarizing figure.
In a tribute posted on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump praised Dobbs as “an incredible talent” and “a friend and truly amazing reporter, journalist, and artist.” Trump added, “Lou was unique, and he loved our nation.”
Dobbs’ media career began at KBLU radio in Arizona before transitioning to television in the mid-1970s, joining NBC’s KING-TV in Seattle. In 1980, he became one of CNN’s original correspondents and launched the influential business news show Moneyline, which helped define the network’s early identity.
His departure from CNN in 2009 came amid growing backlash over his hardline stance on illegal immigration. The following year, he found a new home at Fox Business, where he hosted Lou Dobbs Tonight until the show’s cancellation in 2021.
Dobbs leaves behind a legacy marked by passionate journalism, loyal audiences, and an unyielding voice that shaped political media for decades.
